Impact Report on Solving the Sanitation Crisis in Nairobi's Urban Slums

Program activities
Sanergy designs and manufactures low‑cost, high‑quality sanitation facilities that are purchased and operated by local residents. Sanergy collects the waste regularly, treats and then converts it into useful end‑products such as organic fertilizer.

$400 safely removes and treats one metric ton of fecal waste.

Sanergy collects data on program outcomes continually. To estimate the change attributable to the program, Sanergy made an educated guess as to how participants would have fared without the program.

Data source
Sanergy's logistics team collects waste cartridges from each toilet regularly. The waste is consolidated into big containers and transported for treatment/processing. Containers are weighed before treatment and data is recorded in Sanergy's system.

Attribution method
90% of urban slum residents do not have access to improved sanitation services (from waste removal to safe treatment and disposal or reuse). It is assumed that of the waste Sanergy removes, over 95% would have not been otherwise safely disposed of.

This report was created by Sanergy with self-reported data using ImpactMatters' guided impact reporting platform. This report covers November 2017 to October 2018.
